And a hobby farm it shall be.

AND I’ve finally done it. I’ve decided to get back into the blogging world.

Why? Because we bought the family hobby farm (sans animals but they are soon to come) and I have realized over the past few months that social media sites like Instagram cannot possibly capture all the lessons that I want to share with you (and learn from you). Not to mention Mark Zuckerberg gets decide when and what you get to see of my content, and as a control freak that doesn’t sit well with me. I want you to have a place where you can easily access it whenever YOU want and I don’t have to play his algorithm game with my creativity. I’ll still share snippets but you will only get the whole story here from now on.

So what am I going to do now?

Well, with this farm comes several enormous projects. A home renovation on a dime, fencing and cross fencing for animals, deciding which animals we want to share our lives with, caring for said animals. Keeping everyone fed and healthy while we’re at it. You get the idea. LOTS of projects.

First up, my plans are to renovate and redesign the original home on the property while the MR takes care of clearing brush for fencing and tractoring around the field to keep it up. We both have our work cut our for us.

The house is an original 70s two level box that has had very little done by way of updating since my inlaws built it. My plan is to haul it’s butt into this century, let alone 2020, and do it on as tight of a budget as I can pull off. This means zero structural changes.

We’re talking loads of sweat equity and ingenuity. My plan is to reuse what I can, work with what I have in terms of layout, all while reducing our contribution to the landfill. If I can’t find what I need in the farm’s many outbuildings, then I plan on thrifting or garage sales (in person and on line) as much as I can to fill in the gaps.

What about my food posts?

Does this mean I will give up cooking and sharing recipes? Not at all. One of my goals is to finish the kitchen first so that my culinary adventures don’t fall by the wayside. If you follow me on Instagram @littlefarmhousebythesea you know I’ve already started this (some of it is stored in my highlights). I love sharing my passion for food, and I also plan on creating a cookbook for my family that preserves all the recipes we have enjoyed here over the years. Obviously, as a chronic oversharer, I’ll share some of these treasures with you too.

See! There’s no way I can fit all this into a few social media squares!

Okay, so now you have some idea where I’m going with this. You may think I’m crazy but I have very good reasons why this land and these projects are so important to me. If you’d like to read a little more about them, check out my post on the history of this special place.

xoxo

Judy
